The London Stock Exchange will switch to 24-hour trading

The London Stock Exchange has announced plans to launch a new trading platform, LSE 24, which will operate 24 hours a day, five days a week, Monday to Friday.

The platform is being created separately from the main market of the exchange, which will continue to operate at the same trading hours, and is designed to support algorithmic, digital and agent trading.

Customer testing will begin before the end of 2026. The first asset class that will be available for trading on the new platform will be exchange-traded investment products (ETPs) – their launch is scheduled for the first half of 2027 and will depend on regulatory approval.

According to the Financial Times, the new session will run from approximately 5:00 pm to 7:50 am London time, in addition to standard trading hours. The exchange’s chief executive, Julia Hoggett, called the move an important step in the markets’ development, noting growing demand from Asian investors to access assets outside of traditional trading hours.
