A quota has been allocated for duty-free import of cheeses for regional minimarkets

The Ministry of Economy and Industry has completed the procedure for distributing new quotas for duty-free imports of yellow cheeses in the amount of 880 tons.

The winner of the tender was Global Retail (owner of the Carrefour franchise in Israel) and Euro Mahlevot.

In Carrefour branches, cheese will be sold at 4 shekels per 100 grams, in other retail outlets, including minimarkets, at 4.5 shekels per 100 grams.

In total, we are talking about 540 retail outlets throughout the country.

This step complements the competitive procedure that the ministry carried out at the beginning of the year, which allocated import quotas for yellow cheese, which was sold at a price of 3 to 3.5 shekels per 100 grams.

We are talking about a significant change in the distribution of cheese quotas, allowing cheap cheese to be delivered to small retail outlets. These are precisely those places where the level of competition in the supply of goods is lower, and logistics costs are higher – and therefore prices for consumers there are also higher.
