Paying for blue tick: Twitter has started introducing a new subscription system

Twitter has started implementing its hotly-debated new membership model, which charges users for the coveted “blue check.” This past weekend, some mobile app users had the chance to update, making the membership cost $8 per month.

It has to do with a new iteration of Twitter Blue, a subscription service that is now $5. The most contentious action taken by the new owner, Elon Musk, is his desire for customers to pay for the verification check, which establishes that they are who they claim to be. That tick is still used without charge by celebrities, businesses, organizations, governments, and opinion leaders to stop the spread of false information.

Product development director Esther Crawford later stated that the new version of Twitter Blue cannot yet be used successfully. As we are currently testing and making modifications, some users are getting updates, he explained.

Additionally, subscribers have the option to publish lengthier audio or video pieces. Additionally, comments from paying members are shown above others in the section below a tweet.

commercial pause

In order to become less reliant on advertisements, Musk wants to employ Twitter users to earn more money. The greatest source of revenue for the network is still advertising, although many well-known companies have temporarily halted their Twitter advertising owing to a lack of clarity on the company’s future plans.

Musk claimed on Saturday that as a result, Twitter is losing $4 million per day. He placed the blame on “activists” who voiced opposition to the idea of loosening Twitter’s code of conduct since doing so might lead to an increase in hate speech.

people’s rights

Musk has received advice from the UN to uphold human rights. Twitter is a very small platform, yet it has a significant impact on news reporting, information delivery, and public discourse. Volker Türk, the head of the UN human rights office, said the reports that Musk fired almost all of Twitter’s staff members for using algorithms ethically are “not an auspicious start.”

Musk has reiterated numerous times that the regulations on Twitter have not changed and that message monitoring is still in effect.
