The Accademia Fine Art, in Monte Carlo, withdrew four pieces of Mexico’s archaeological heritage from the auction held yesterday, after the federal Ministry of Culture (SC) demanded the cancellation of their sale and their restitution.

In a statement it was announced that the opinion of the National Institute of Anthropology and History determined that “four of the announced objects are archaeological and historical assets that are part of the cultural heritage of the Mexican nation”; He added that “its presence outside the national territory derives from illicit extraction.”

The Monegasque firm carried out the bid entitled Day 2: Ancient and modern art: Sale of furniture, works of art, glassware, silverware, prints, carpets, porcelain. In their catalog they report that lots 383, 384 and 487 to 492, of the 300 that were put up for sale that day, were withdrawn.
