Professor Rodrigo Bercovitz, Award for the dissemination of Intellectual Property from the Instituto Autor

The Instituto Autor has awarded the V Antonio Delgado Prize for the work of Dissemination and Strengthening of Intellectual Property to the professor of Civil Law at the Autonomous University of Madrid, Rodrigo Bercovitz.

With this award, established in 2021, the Author Institute seeks to distinguish a person or entity that has contributed decisively to the development, strengthening and defense of Intellectual Property Law and of authors, artists and cultural industries, in general. The headquarters of the General Society of Authors and Editors (SGAE) will host the award ceremony on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

Bercovitz has been a professor of Civil Law at the Autonomous University of Madrid since July 1974 and has an extensive career in the legal and academic field. Throughout his career he has participated in numerous civil procedures, arbitrations, issuance of opinions and in the publication of an extensive doctrinal production on different areas of private law.

Among other initiatives, He is founder and director of various reference legal journalssuch as Cuadernos Cívitas de Jurisprudencia Civil, the Aranzadi Civil Magazine, the Aranzadi Civil-Mercantil Doctrinal Magazine, the Private Law and Constitution Magazine and the Intellectual Property Magazine.

In addition, has coordinated legal worksamong them, Comments on the Intellectual Property Law (2017), Intellectual Property Manual (2017), Modifications to the Civil Code of 2015 (2016), Contract Treaties (2013), Civil Rights of Spain (2000), as well as different editions of the Civil Law Manual.

Also noteworthy are Commentary on the General Law for the Defense of Consumers and Users (1992), Commentary on the Arbitration Law (1991) and Commentary on the Civil Code (1991), among other publications.

Practicing lawyer since 1980, his career has been closely linked to the field of intellectual property. He is founder and director of the Master in Intellectual Property, Industrial and New Technologies at the Autonomous University of Madrid and He was a member of the Commission of Experts on Intellectual Property of the European Commission between 1997 and 2006.

In 2023, the Ministry of Culture recognized their work with the granting of the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts. The Antonio Delgado Award is an initiative of the Instituto Autor, a center created in 2005 by SGAE for the study, promotion and dissemination of Intellectual Property.
