Raul Castro is on his way to prison – at the age of 94: the US is preparing for the indictment


The United States Attorney General’s Office in the Southern District of Florida is the body that has been overseeing in recent months the effort to examine the filing of criminal charges against a number of senior Cuban government officials. Representatives of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs and spokeswomen for the US Department of Justice have not yet given an official response to the emerging move.

Despite the deep tensions, earlier this year officials in both countries admitted that they were in talks, but the negotiations soon ran aground in the shadow of the US fuel embargo. However, only yesterday the Cuban government confirmed that a rare meeting was held in Havana with the head of the CIA, John Ratcliffe. An intelligence agency official said that during the meeting with senior intelligence officials in Cuba, Ratcliffe made it clear that the United States would be willing to cooperate and discuss economic security issues – only if the Cuban government made “fundamental changes”.
