Here’s all the essential information about Thursday night’s semifinal:

Possible winners include Denmark and Australia

Although from a Finnish point of view, Thursday’s semi-final does not have the same tension as Tuesday’s broadcast, there are several high-level performances on Thursday’s broadcast that can at best compete for the Eurovision win.

Based on the current betting statistics, the strongest winning candidate from Thursday’s semi-final is representing Denmark Søren Torpegaard Lund. In an interview with HS Torpegaard Lund said that he has been a big Eurovision fan since he was a child. The first time he applied for a place as Denmark’s Eurovisa representative was three years ago.

In the 2020s, Denmark has only reached the Eurovision final once. A beautiful pop rock song Before we go home should easily bring Denmark a place in the finals, and even in the finals it can at best even challenge Finland in the fight for victory if it gets a lot of points from expert judges.

Delta Goodrem is believed to bring Australia a place in the finals.

Denmark appears in the tenth place of Thursday’s semi-final. Right after that, it’s Australia’s turn, which has sent a real stunner to Eurovision this year.

41 years old Delta Goodrem has had a career as an artist for over 20 years, and right at the beginning of his career in 2003 he released the song Lost Without Youwhich probably many Finns also remember as being heard on the radio. In Eurovision, Goodrem competes with a ballad that utilizes his handsome voice Eclipsewho is believed to do well in the competition and take Australia to the final.

Almost certain finalists are also Romania Alexandra Capitanescuof Ukraine Leka and Malta Aidan. Romania returns to Eurovision this year after a two-year break with a rock song Choke Mewho managed to cause a bit of a stir among visu fans with his lyrics during the past spring. The song was interpreted as referring to strangling a partner during sex, but Căpitănescu denied this interpretation.

Thursday the semifinals also include two countries that have become the talk of the town during the five-week period because of their musical instruments. Representative of Luxembourg Eva Maria plays the violin in his performance, from Switzerland Veronica Fusaro on the other hand, an electric guitar.

Neither of them actually plays their instrument in the performance, but the sound of the instrument comes from the tape. This has been completely normal at Eurovision throughout the 2000s, but this year the live instruments have become louder when Linda Lampenius received permission from the European Broadcasting Union, Ebu, to play her violin for real in Finland’s performance.

After this, social media discussions wondered why the same permission wasn’t granted to Marija or Fusaro, who had both said in interviews that they were upset that they wouldn’t actually get their instrument. Eurovision manager Martin Green said on Sunday at the opening of the Eurovision Song Contest that neither the Luxembourg nor the Swiss delegation had officially applied for special permission to play the instrument in the show.

Luxembourg’s representative Eva Marija’s violin can be heard on the background tape at Eurovision.

Finland neighboring countries in Thursday’s semi-final will also be represented by Norway Jonas Lovv with the closing rock song of the evening Ya ya ya. Lovvi’s entry to the final is the most uncertain of this year’s Nordic representatives.

In addition to the 15 semi-finalists, the big four funding countries, Britain and France, and last year’s winner Austria will also appear in Thursday’s semi-final. These countries automatically advance to the finals.

Especially French Monroe’s is believed to compete strongly for the Eurovision win on Saturday. A song by a soprano singer who is only 17 years old Look at! is, in all its pomposity, quite a masterpiece of Monroe’s voice use, and it collects hard points from expert judges.

Thursday’s semi-final performance order:

What else will happen in Thursday’s semifinal?

Last Eurovision winner of the year, Austria JJ will appear in Thursday’s semifinal. At the beginning of the evening, a cover of his winning song will be heard Wasted Loveduring the interval JJ will perform his new song.

Thursday’s semi-final will be broadcast in the same way as Tuesday’s broadcast Victoria Swarovski and Michael Ostrowski.

Correction 22.06: In the article it was wrongly stated that JJ will perform his song Wasted Love at the beginning of the semi-final. The opening number featured a humorous adaptation of Wasted Love.
