Teenage vaping and the perception of immigration, winning projects of the 20th edition of ‘Es de Libro’ by CEDRO

The investigations on the risks of vaping among teenagers and about the difference between data and social perceptions around immigration are among the winning works of the XX edition of the educational program ‘It’s from a book‘, promoted by the Spanish Center for Reprographic Rights (CEDRO) to promote original research and respect for copyright in the classrooms.

Specifically, the work ‘Vaping in adolescence. A murderer disguised in colors’, carried out by 2nd year Baccalaureate students from IES Enric Valor in Silla (Valencia), it has been recognized in the category of Baccalaureate Sciences and Intermediate Training Cycles. For its part, the research ‘Spain facing immigration: data vs. perceptions’prepared by 4th year ESO students from Colegio Estudio de Madrid, has won the Humanities award in the second cycle ESO category.

The jury, meeting this Thursday in CEDRO headquarters in Madridhas selected six winning investigations from Asturias, Barcelona, ​​Madrid and Valencia, whose authors have addressed current topics such as immigration, artificial intelligence, microbiology, aging or addictions.

The president of CEDRO and member of the jury, Carme Riera, highlighted the quality of the works presented and stressed that “Originality, critical thinking and the human perspective continue to be values ​​in the new generations“, especially in a context marked by the expansion of artificial intelligence tools.

Along with the works on vaping and immigration, the contest has awarded research in the first cycle of ESO ‘The invisible to the naked eye: a microbiological map of our bathrooms’from CEIPSO Blas de Lezo in Madrid, in the Science category, and ‘Front and back the mask. Identity exposed. Study of social masks. What do we hide behind the mask?’, of the Institut Creu de Saba de Olesa de Montserrat (Barcelona), in Humanidades.

In the second cycle of ESO, the Science award went to ‘Red gold: ocle cleaning using artificial intelligence’prepared by students from the IES of Candás (Asturias). In Baccalaureate, the Humanities prize has gone to ‘Loneliness and aging in older adults. Intergenerational links’also developed by students from IES Enric Valor de Silla.

In addition, the jury has awarded two special mentions to research carried out by students from the Colexio Plurilingüe Alborada de Vigo on the quality of water in the areas of influence of the Lagares River and on the underwater archaeological heritage of the Vigo estuary and its relationship with the benthic ecosystem.

In this 20th edition, 1,125 students and 141 teachers participated, presenting a total of 196 original investigations. 71 percent of the jobs come from public centers.

The awards ceremony will take place on June 25 at the National Archaeological Museum, in an event organized by CEDRO and the National Library of Spain with which both institutions will commemorate the twenty years of history of this educational initiative.
