The Young Cultural Bonus 2026 starts with 10,000 applications and can be used for instruments, material and courses

The Ministry of Culture presented this Monday the Young Cultural Bonus 2026which 10,000 young people have already appliedwith the novelty that it can also be used for the acquisition of musical instruments, materials for artistic creation and cultural courses, as Minister Ernest Urtasun announced last year in an interview with Europa Press.

“We do not want the construction of free citizens to depend on zip code or income. We want to democratize access to culture for all young people. It is important that 18-year-olds have the right to cultural training,” said the minister at the presentation event of the 2026 Youth Cultural Bonus, held this Monday at the Valle-Inclán Theater in Madrid.

Urtasun has defended the importance of the Cultural Bonus as a tool that allows young people to “train as people and as citizens” and has recognized that, until now, cultural creation was an aspect that was “missing” from the initiative. “The Cultural Bonus can help new vocations emerge among young people“he stated.

Thus, the Young Cultural Bonus begins its fifth edition this Monday with nearly 10,000 applications, as Urtasun has advanced, and young people will be able to apply until October 31. This expansion in the products and activities available through the Voucher responds to the desire to promote creativity as part of the development of young people, as well as promote culture from a more active and participatory role.

“We broaden the horizon of the Young Cultural Bonus because we want it to not only serve to access culture, but also to create culture. Because culture is not only consumption, It is also practically, creativity, participation, community and personal development“, assured Urtuson.

For the first time, young people will be able to request this aid of 400 euros by choosing between two modalities: the first, the total amount of the aid can be allocated to a single category to choose between courses and workshops of cultural content (in person and online), musical instruments or means of creation and artistic material.

In the second modality, the 400 euros can be distributed in live and audiovisual arts, cultural heritage and means of artistic creation and artistic material (up to 200 euros); cultural products in physical format (up to 100 euros); and digital or online consumption (up to 100 euros).

With the aim of reaching the most vulnerable population sectors, a collaboration has been established with the Third Sector Platform, with the aim of providing support in the dissemination of the current call for the Young Cultural Bonus and helping young people from these population sectors to carry out the application process.

The minister has confessed that, if the Cultural Bonus had existed when he turned 18, he would have used it to buy records and attend concerts that he could not go to. “I remember that I couldn’t go to Pearl Jam at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona“, he pointed out.

Likewise, the general director of Cultural Rights of the Ministry of Culture, Jazmín Beirak, has indicated that the Ministry wants to convert the Youth Cultural Bonus into an equity tool, with specific measures to favor access for young people who face greater economic or social barriers.

As indicated, a study carried out by the department revealed that 70% of young people with high incomes requested the bonus, compared to only 30% of those with lower incomes, a difference that, in his opinion, shows the need to introduce mechanisms to reduce inequalities in access to culture.

MORE THAN 500,000 YOUNG PEOPLE CAN APPLY FOR THE CULTURAL BONUS

The Official State Gazette (BOE) has published this Monday the extract of the call for the Young Cultural Bonus 2026, endowed with a total of 160 million euros and an individual aid of 400 euros for those who turn 18 during this year.

Young people of Spanish nationality or with legal residence in Spain who reach the age of majority in 2026 may benefit from this aid. Asylum seekers, people in the process of temporary protection and ex-tutored foreigners in the process of obtaining a residence permit may also apply.

The aid will be granted in the form of a personal prepaid card. Applications must be submitted electronically through the program’s official website. The granting resolution will be issued within a maximum period of six months from the request.

Once aid is granted, prepaid cards will be provided through a mobile application, although a physical card may also be issued if you do not have a compatible smartphone.

The expense must be made exclusively in establishments and entities participating in the program, and the beneficiaries must justify the purchases made. In case of improper or fraudulent use, the card may be blocked and the corresponding amounts may be required to be refunded.

According to data from the National Institute of Statistics, a total of 561,459 young people are potential beneficiaries of the Cultural Bonus throughout Spain.
