The Plurinational Parliamentary Group Sumar, at the request of Chunta Aragonesista (CHA), has registered in the Congress of Deputies a non-law proposal related to the protection of cultural heritage in depopulated areas or at risk of disappearance, for debate in the Culture Commission.
The initiative, reported by Europa Press, urges the Government to promote, in collaboration with the competent regional and local administrations, a specific program aimed at protecting architectural heritage in depopulated areas or areas at risk of disappearance, taking advantage of European funds intended for the conservation and improvement of rural cultural heritage.
Sumar also wants the Government to carry out a complete study, in collaboration with the competent regional and local administrations, which allows this heritage to be inventoried and to know the conservation needs in each case in order to establish priorities.
The training warns that the demographic challenge that affects many regions of Aragon and the interior of the peninsula “puts at risk the protection and conservation of a rich cultural heritage.”
For this reason, it is considered necessary for public administrations to launch a specific program aimed at protecting architectural heritage in depopulated areas or areas at risk of disappearance.
“When we talk about rural cultural heritage we are talking about archaeological, historical-artistic, natural, industrial, ecclesiastical, civil and intangible heritage, the maintenance of which involves the conservation of the identity of a place and its inhabitants, as well as the security of its enjoyment for future generations,” Sumar points out.
