David Harbour, the actor who cheated on Lily Allen, now tells what he thinks about his ex-wife’s record

The album, released in October, was an autobiographical and detailed account of Harbour’s relationship with Allen. The lyrics describing extramarital affairs, breaking mutually agreed boundaries and emotional manipulation generated lively discussion.

However, Allen has stated in an interview that he could not say that everything on the album is true.

For Variety in his interview, Harbor talks about his attitude towards the album.

“It was weird. I do believe it’s every artist’s prerogative to use their experience to create art, and so I respect him for that,” says Harbour.

On the album Allen describes an unnamed husband who she says was belittling, jealous of her acting career and kept a separate apartment for sex.

Throughout his career, Allen has drawn for his songs from his own life and the experiences of his loved ones. Harbor says that he draws stricter boundaries for his private life.

“I can’t really say more about this,” he states, “because it’s about my private life. Even though a lot of people don’t seem to allow me privacy, I value it. I also value the privacy of the people I deal with in my personal life. I’m just not going to talk about it.”

In the interview, Harbor is offered a chance to dispute the album’s claims, but he doesn’t take it.

“The stories are complicated,” he says. “That’s why I say I respect that he made art from his own experiences. They just weren’t my experiences.”

Harbor says that he used his own experiences in the new one DTF St. Louis in the series, which is shown on the HBO Max streaming service.

Harbour rose to global popularity with Netflix Stranger Thingsfrom the series. West End Girl was published a month before the start of the last production season of the series.

Harbor tells Variety that period turned into a serious mental health crisis for her. The actor has spoken openly about his bipolar disorder.

Harbor and Allen, who have been dating for a long time, got married in Las Vegas in 2020. The couple was told divorced in February 2025.
