Fuss over song “Football Men”: ZDF defends controversial Ikkimel appearance in “Morgenmagazin”

After Controversial appearance by rapper Ikkimel in the ZDF “Morgenmagazin” the station justified its decision to invite the singer. Her song “Football Men,” which she performed in Berlin’s MoMa studio, “takes up the topic of football from a pop culture perspective and has received a lot of attention, especially among young people,” a ZDF spokesman told “Bild.”

The show “regularly depicts such social and pop culture phenomena”it continued. The invitation to the “Morgenmagazin” was therefore made “as part of the current football reporting”.

Ikkimel, whose real name is Melina Gaby Strauss, was known for provocative lyrics about parties, drugs and sexwhich she combines with fast techno beats. It was therefore not surprising what she said in the “Morgenmagazin”.

The two moderators Andreas Wunn and Philip Wortmann still had it moderated with a certain classification. Some would celebrate Ikkimel as a feminist, explained Wortmann. But others would also accuse her of “sometimes vulgar hatred of men”.

The musician raps in her song “Football Men”. Lines like “Football men, all bums. Beer belly, bratwurst, delicious” and “Latenkracher, Mertesacker, Tiki-Taka in a thong”. At the end, the musician shouted “Good morning Moma!” and giggled. After the performance, ZDF presenter Wunn addressed the male audience directly: “Dear football men, don’t be offended. This is provocation and art and is really hitting a nerve with Gen-Z.”
