Christopher Street Day in Berlin: Sarah Connor will perform at the CSD at the Brandenburg Gate on Saturday

“Sarah Connor has been an icon of the queer community for many years and is celebrated and revered by many people because of her openness and active support. And we as CSD Berlin also feel honored that Sarah performs for our community at the Brandenburg Gate without a fee,” says CSD board member Marcel Voges.

“The queer community has always supported me,” says the 46-year-old singer. “After it was never compatible with my tour schedule in the last few years, I’m really happy that it’s now working out, because it’s a very special moment for my Vincent and I to finally be able to celebrate with you at the Brandenburg Gate!”

“Vincent” by Sarah Connor: Anthem for people coming out

The pop and soul singer had her musical breakthrough in 2001 with the single “Let’s Get Back to Bed – Boy!”. In 2019 she released her song “Vincent”. It is considered an anthem for people coming out. The song is about the confusion and pain of love – including a boy who realizes he is gay. The song “gave hope to countless people in this difficult phase of life,” explains the Berlin CSD.

Last year, Connor said in an interview with the German Press Agency that heterosexual people could learn something from the queer community when it comes to relationship issues: “I think that the queer scene is miles ahead of the hetero-monogamous world when it comes to calmness and open thinking in relationships. I listen carefully to my gay friends when they talk about their ideas about relationships.”

With the announcement, the CSD ends the speculation as to who will be the musical star guest this year. Last week, the board announced that it would only announce this at very short notice in order to prevent the area around the Brandenburg Gate from being overcrowded.

The musical star guest at the CSD on Friday remains secret

It remains a secret which star will appear on the big stage in front of the Brandenburg Gate on Friday evening. This year the Berlin CSD will take place over two days for the first time. On Friday from 6 p.m. there will be a democracy evening with political discussions, culture and live music.

On Saturday the big demonstration will take place through the city. It starts at twelve o’clock on the corner of Leipziger Strasse and Charlottenstrasse. From there we go across Nollendorfplatz to the Victory Column. The final rally will then take place on Straße des 17. Juni, where there will be political speeches but also music until midnight – with star guest Sarah Connor.
