Big movie The Odysseyn one scene has sparked debate due to its exceptionally violent flash. US viewers have described the scene as, among other things, “the most powerful flash I’ve ever seen on the big screen.”
There have been discussions, for example On reddit and on Instagram. It has been feared that the flash will trigger an epileptic or migraine attack in light-sensitive viewers, and viewers have also reported headaches after watching the film.
Among other things, a Canadian pop culture influencer Liz Duff told on Instagram having left the hall because of a flash.
Also an American gaming and pop culture website My city has highlighted the scene and the discussion surrounding it.
“At that point my eyes just couldn’t take it anymore,” one viewer mentioned by Kotaku writes on the messaging service X. “I was squinting the whole time. My head still hurts, even though I left the theater an hour ago.”
“I was honestly surprised there wasn’t a warning at the beginning of the movie,” said another viewer. “It was so violent.”
According to Kotaku, a few theaters have warned about the scene before the movie. However, the film’s official release information does not include a flash or epilepsy warning.
Scene is about halfway through the movie. Matt Damon’s performed by Odysseus and his companions land on the island of Thrinakia, where they are warned not to stray into the sacred cattle that graze there.
When we are leaving the island, the lightning starts. The strongest flickering and rattling lasts more than a minute.
“The brightness of the Laser-IMAX projectors is so great that the strobe lights can feel more like a physical strain than an experience on the big screen,” one Reddit user writes. “That’s why viewers should be warned about their use in advance.”
Finnkino PR manager Irene Hernbergin according to the movie theaters, there have been only individual feedbacks about the hard flick. Hernberg says that warnings cannot be added because Finnkino acts as a distributor of the film and therefore does not own its rights.
“Possible warnings come from the production companies themselves, all the way from the United States.”
Premiered on Friday, July 17 The Odyssey has been a worldwide audience success and received mostly positive reviews. In Finland, the film gathered 46,490 viewers during its premiere weekend, which was this year’s record.
