In Filottrano for the candidacy of the Marche theaters for UNESCO

The conference aimed to enhance the cultural heritage of the Marche and the candidacy path of the Marche theaters as a World Heritage Site, within the “Italian-style condominium theater system”, the decision of which is expected in the next few days in Korea, on the occasion of the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, called to assign the new awards, but there is the utmost trust on the part of Italy. “In our region there is a very significant concentration of theaters compared to the number of municipalities and inhabitants, this is unique worldwide. The Marche is the region of theatres, which are the center of the community”, explained Giorgia Latini, deputy and regional secretary of the League. “The decision could arrive within a few hours: the commissions are evaluating our candidacy in these days and the window is between today and July 26 or 27. We have received a series of positive feedback over time and this gives us hope for the prestigious recognition.”

With a video message Giorgetti, underlined that “culture is a productive sector capable of generating employment, added value, innovation and new skills. At a national level the creative cultural system involves over 621 thousand employed, 140 thousand of whom are between 15 and 34 years old. In the Marche, according to the “I am culture” report, the regional cultural production system involves over 36 thousand people and generates over 2 billion euros, equal to 5 percent of the regional economy”. Then the minister Salvini underlined how recognition for the Marche and for all of Italy “would be exceptional. The Marche can become a global excellence.”

The presence and attention of leading national politicians, from the Vice President of the Council Matteo Salvini to the Minister of Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti, testify to the growing centrality of Filottrano in the institutional and cultural panorama. A level of involvement rarely recorded in the past, which confirms how the Marche municipality is today increasingly at the center of regional and national interest. In this context, the role of the mayor Luca Paolorossi, host of the initiative, also emerges, who in recent years has contributed to strengthening the visibility of Filottrano through an intense activity of promoting its cultural, historical and social excellences.
