He was an integral part of the Viennese theater: Austrian actor Johannes Krisch is dead

The mime could be seen on television, among other things, in David Schalko’s successful series “Braunschlag”. He also appeared in several episodes of the crime series “Tatort”. In Götz Spielmann’s Oscar-nominated 2008 film drama “Revanche”. Krisch shone in the lead role. In the film “Märzengrund” (2022) by Adrian Goigingers he took on the role of the dropout Elias. At the Theater in der Josefstadt he appeared on stage in “Der Bockerer” as a stubborn butcher who does not come to terms with the Nazis.

The former director of the Theater in der Josefstadt, Herbert Föttinger, praised Krisch as “one of the most important actors of his generation”.

“Johannes Krisch had the rare gift of not playing characters, but rather experiencing them in the moment – and letting the audience participate in them,” says Föttinger. Krisch touched his audience with his intensity, his truthfulness and his deep humanity.

When asked how he prepares for his stage appearances, Krisch once replied: “I spit on the stage floor three times and knock on wood.”
