Roller skates frontman Mick Jagger, 83, throws the receipt to the Finnish audience in a recent podcast.
“Playing in Finland is not the same as in Argentina. It’s a different audience. They don’t want to get as messed up,” Jagger estimates.
“But they have fun in their own way.”
The assessment of Finns can be heard from The New York Times on The Interview podcastin which Jagger reflects on his relationship with fame, performing and audiences. The themes also continue in the magazine in the article.
Rolling Stonesilla has a long shared history with the Finnish audience. The band’s first concert in Finland was organized in Yyteri, Pori, on Midsummer’s Eve 1965.
The next time the band arrived in Finland was in 1970. The concert organized at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium was also Finland’s first real stadium concert.
After this, there have been concerts at the stadium in 1995, 1998, 2003 and 2007.

Of course one might ask if Jagger’s memory is already starting to slip. Ilta-Sanom’s 2007 according to the story Jagger praised that all the concerts in Helsinki were “great.”
At Yyter’s 1965 concert in Pori, it is estimated that there were around 15,000 people, and according to Yle’s contemporary estimate, the audience’s reception was anything but restrained. Shoes, sweaters, bras and empty liquor bottles were thrown onto the stage, and a few passed out.
According to the description police and orderlies wrestle with spectators who rush too close. Supplier Heikki Kahila painted moods in a sports commentary style: “The audience was boiling and seething, it was like a colorful soup bubbling in all directions, expressing its feelings with one continuous scream that covers everything.”

On the podcast Jagger admits that living as a stadium star for more than half a century cannot help but affect a person.
According to him, worldwide fame can disconnect the performer from the so-called real life.
Jagger says that he consciously tries to resist isolation. According to him, there is no need for very complicated means: he can go for a walk alone, move around the city and take care of ordinary things.
A person still doesn’t return to their former self, and Jagger describes how success can become an endless ego journey.
“I have a friend whose constant joke is that I act like I’m on stage at dinner parties,” he jokes.
Secondly a big ego is also useful for the performer, because stepping into the stadium requires extraordinary self-confidence. Jagger says he learned a lot from performing Little Richardilta, with whom he toured in the early stages of his career.
At that time, the artists were content to play their songs and greet the audience. However, Little Richard joked, commanded the audience and forcibly pulled the whole hall into his world.
Nowadays, Jagger says he’s constantly assessing the audience and the conditions: are people cold, raining, have they had to wait a long time, and has it been difficult to get to the venue.
“My job is to get people to spend two hours as fun as possible and forget about their problems, the problems of the world and their mortgage,” Jagger describes.
Perhaps the Finnish public will soon get to show their hot-bloodedness. In the podcast, Jagger already hopes to go on another world tour.
In HS’s estimation new album released in July Foreign Tongues got four stars.
