THE EXHIBITION
The exhibition, curated by Oscar Nalesini and Cristiana Turini, and already exhibited in Macerata in 2024 and in Beijing in May 2026, was organized by the Italian Cultural Institute of Beijing and the University of Macerata, in collaboration with the ISMEO, the Italian Embassy in Mongolia, Cinecittà–Istituto Luce, Museo delle Civiltà di Roma (MUCIV), with the patronage of the Municipality of Macerata and the support of the Ministry of Culture (MIC).
The exhibition itinerary retraces the extraordinary intellectual and scientific adventure of Giuseppe Tucci: among the many labels attributed to him (linguist, philologist, Tibetologist, sinologist, explorer) what stands out above all is that of a total scholar, thirsty for knowledge and guided by the fascination of the unknown. Through 66 photographs and numerous documentary contents, the exhibition returns the profile of a man who considered knowledge as a direct encounter with cultures: eight expeditions to Tibet between 1928 and 1948, five to Nepal between 1929 and 1954, and archaeological campaigns in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran starting from the 1950s.
To enrich the exhibition for the stage in Mongolia, the screening of the short film “In the steppes of Mongolia” by the Istituto Luce – Cinecittà – with commentary by Giuseppe Tucci and an unpublished panel illustrating the relationships between Tucci and Mongolia.
