Jonás Trueba's new film, 'Volverás', will participate in the Filmmakers' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival

‘You will return’ the new feature film Jonas Trueba starring Itsaso Arana and Vito Sanz, will have its world premiere at the Filmmakers’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival, as announced by the distributor Elástica Films.

Written by the director and the two leading actors, the film is a production of Los ilusos films, Les films du Worso (France) and Arte France Cinéma, and will hit theaters distributed by Elastica on August 30, 2024. It will be the only Spanish presence in this edition of the Cannes Festival.

“I think my previous films always had some humor, but with ‘Volverás’ I wanted to make a more overt comedy. The premise revolves around a somewhat paradoxical idea of a couple who decides to celebrate their breakup.“Trueba explained in a statement.

The director has pointed out that this film was also “an excuse” to reunite Itsaso Arana and Vito Sanz as the leading couple in one of his works, as well as “repeat with the usual dreamy team, technicians and actors” with whom He has been working since his first film.

“Feeling that we are growing old together is exciting and presenting our work at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes is a joy, because it is a place that has always supported independent cinema and values that are important to us,” he added.

This film will be released in theaters in Spain on August 30. After 15 years together, Ale and Alex have an idea that might seem absurd: organize a party to celebrate their breakup. This announcement perplexes their loved ones, but they remain firm in their decision to separate. Or maybe not?
