The PP will register an initiative in the Senate to recover the National Bullfighting Award

The PP will register in the Senate an initiative to request the Government to restore the National Bullfighting Award, after the Ministry of Culture of Ernest Urtasun has announced that it will not call this award for the year 2024 and that it will begin the procedures to eliminate the procedures to permanently eliminate the award, as ‘popular’ sources have informed Europa Press.

The PP spokesperson in the Senate, Alicia García, has described this decision by the Ministry of Culture as “regrettable and sectarian” and recalled that she herself created the Castilla y León Bullfighting Prize in 2015.

“We are not only talking about the hallmarks of our country, we are also talking about an activity that provides work and that contributes in a very important way to the maintenance of the economy in some areas of our geography, especially if we refer to the rural area” says Alicia García.

Specifically, the Ministry of Culture has made the decision to suppress the National Bullfighting Award, since these awards must be “a faithful reflection of the values ​​and feelings of society”, such as increased concern for animal welfare.

As elDiario.es has advanced and sources from the Ministry have explained to Europa Press, the current regulation of the National Awards dates back to 1995 and, “since that moment, it has undergone numerous modifications with the aim of adapting this instrument to the reality of each moment. of promotion that corresponds to the Ministry of Culture, reviewing those cultural sectors that at all times it is considered appropriate to support”.

In this sense, Culture considers that, “the National Awards must be a faithful reflection of the evaluations and feelings of society and, given that the new social and cultural reality in Spain, where concern for animal welfare has been increasing while “On the contrary, attendance at bullfighting shows is, according to data for the 2021-2022 period, only 1.9% of the population, a new review of them is timely.”
