5 foods to help reduce sneezing and stuffy nose due to allergies

Foods rich in antioxidants and the omega-3 quercetin, such as citrus fruits and salmon, can help reduce allergy symptoms.

Allergy symptoms appear when the immune system overreacts to agents such as pollen, pet dander or dust mites. Some foods contain anti-inflammatory compounds and immunomodulatory nutrients that may contribute to reducing symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion and itchy eyes.

Cam rich in vitamin C – an antioxidant that can assist in reducing histamine levels in the body and contribute to the regulation of inflammatory responses. Histamine is a chemical released by the immune system when exposed to an allergen, causing symptoms such as sneezing, stuffy nose, runny nose and itchy eyes.

The body cannot produce vitamin C on its own, so patients need to supplement this vitamin through food every day. Fiber-rich oranges also help stabilize blood sugar levels and are good for intestinal health. A healthy digestive system is an important factor for the immune system to respond better to allergens, according to Health.

Onion rich in quercetin – a plant compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Some studies show that quercetin may help stabilize mast cells – immune cells that release histamine when the body is exposed to allergens. As a result, this compound can contribute to reducing histamine release and soothing allergy symptoms.

Salmon rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which have a positive effect on the immune system. Omega-3 works by reducing inflammatory substances in the body, helping to prevent reactions to allergens, thereby reducing sneezing, itchy nose and inflammation. The combination of omega-3, vitamin D and selenium in salmon promotes natural resistance, making the body less sensitive to irritants.

Ginger Contains gingerol and shogaol compounds that have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. These compounds may help regulate immune response, inhibit mast cell activation and reduce histamine release, thereby soothing allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose and itchy nose.

Yogurt rich in probiotics – beneficial bacteria that help maintain healthy intestinal microflora. Much of the immune system’s activity takes place in the gut, where immune cells and microflora coordinate responses to allergens, viruses and many other agents. According to Very Well Health, Imbalanced gut microflora may be linked to more severe allergy symptoms. Eating yogurt regularly contributes to reducing inflammatory responses and soothing some allergy symptoms.
