Is drinking iced tea every day good?

Iced tea is a common name for diluted tea drink with ice, which can be made from fresh green tea, dried tea or other types of tea. Most sidewalk iced tea in Vietnam is made from green tea – a drink that not only quenches thirst but also contains many antioxidant compounds that are beneficial to health. Many studies show that if used in moderation combined with a healthy diet and lifestyle, green tea can contribute to protecting the liver and reducing the risk of some liver diseases.

The outstanding benefits of green tea come from the group of catechin antioxidant compounds, especially epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG may help reduce fat accumulation in the liver, limit oxidative stress, improve insulin resistance and reduce inflammatory responses. Thanks to that, drinking green tea regularly can help improve liver health in people with fatty liver.

Maintaining the habit of drinking green tea daily is also related to improving liver enzyme indicators. Besides, the catechins in green tea have the ability to increase antioxidants, reduce inflammatory reactions, support fat metabolism, and protect liver cells against damage caused by free radicals.

However, tea is only a part of a healthy lifestyle and cannot replace medication or other health care measures. You should maintain a balanced diet, rich in green vegetables and fiber, prioritize lean proteins and healthy fats, limit sugar, refined starches and saturated fats, exercise regularly, limit or avoid alcohol, do not smoke and reduce exposure to toxic chemicals.

In general, green tea or drinking iced tea every day is safe when used in moderate amounts. However, you should not drink it too thick or drink it on an empty stomach because it can cause nausea and stomach discomfort. For people with liver disease or being treated for chronic diseases, you should consult your doctor before using green tea extract products or dietary supplements containing high doses of EGCG.
