Rewarding the rescue doctor and his wife in Kon Tum

Doctor Nguyen Van Giap, 35 years old, and Doctor Luong Hai Yen, 33 years old, were commended by Hung Vuong Gia Lai Hospital after rescuing victims of a car crash.

“This is a situation where any medical staff who encounters it will rush in to save the victim,” Dr. Giap shared on the afternoon of April 20. His wife, Dr. Yen, believes that this is a valuable experience, helping many people understand the importance of out-of-hospital emergency to limit injuries and save patients’ lives during the golden time.

Previously, on April 13, an accident occurred in Dak To Re commune, Kon Ray district, Kon Tum province, between a passenger car carrying a delegation of Ho Chi Minh City Market Management officials and a tractor-trailer. Doctor Giap and his wife, both working at Hung Vuong General Hospital, Gia Lai, coincidentally drove each other on motorbikes and were the earliest medical staff to arrive at the scene.

Both of them gave first aid and called on people around them to help, trying to give first aid to as many people as possible, waiting for the outside ambulance team to arrive. Among them, a patient was in a coma and could not feel his pulse. Doctor Yen had to do chest compressions on the spot to help this person regain his heartbeat. After that, the doctor transferred the patient to the car and continued chest compressions and artificial respiration all the way to the hospital.

Experts assess that out-of-hospital circulatory arrest is an extremely important skill that can help many patients escape death. This is a state of sudden interruption of the heart’s pumping activity, preventing blood from circulating to other parts of the body. When falling into this state, the victim will face the risk of lack of blood carrying oxygen to the organs. From there, the patient can die or develop permanent brain damage within a few minutes. If detected early and treated quickly and properly, victims can escape these dangers.

Mr. Pham Van Hoc, General Director of Hung Vuong Gia Lai Hospital, said that saving lives is the duty and responsibility of medical staff, but the tireless actions of the two doctors should be honored to encourage and replicate more. .

“The doctors’ work has spread a positive spirit to many people and is worthy of being an example for us to learn from,” Mr. Hoc said.

In addition to the commendation from the hospital, the two doctors received a certificate of merit from the Vietnam Private Hospital Association for their noble gesture in promptly rescuing victims and minimizing deaths.
