He runs around Sljemen, does not sleep and will soon make history. Maja Bonačić is a great humanitarian

Everestman is an extreme triathlon that only two men have managed to complete so far. The challenge requires the athlete to continuously, without sleeping, overcome the height difference equal to the ascent of Mount Everest (8,848 m) in three disciplines. For Maja, this means swimming almost nine kilometers, then cycling 250 kilometers along 26 climbs to the Zelena Magistrala to gain 8,900 meters of altitude difference, and finally running or walking 70 kilometers along 12 climbs to Sljeme, collecting an additional 8,900 meters of ascent.

The entire undertaking, as she estimated, should last about 60 hours.

​ – Maybe those 60 hours will not be easy, but what is that compared to the lifelong challenges of children and their families – said Maja before the start.

This challenge therefore has deep symbolism: every meter of the ascent is dedicated to children and parents who daily climb their “invisible ascents” through therapies and fighting the system. Through the “Playful pedal for Frendofon” campaign, Maja invited companies and citizens to “buy” shares of her path. One ascent by bike could be sponsored with 300 euros, and the race to Sljeme with 600 euros. Due to bad weather conditions, the start of the challenge was moved from Friday to Saturday, August 28, when the swimming part started at nine o’clock in the morning. After the swimming pool, she moved to Zelena magistrala, and the last stage is the ascent to Sljeme. There, numerous fans and friends are cheering her on in the last kilometers, and her progress can also be followed via social networks.
