A shot putter Teijo Köpikkä has improved the European record for class 57 para athletes, says Finnish Sports Federation.
Kööpikkä, 45, representing the Rauma Athletes, scored a record 15.15 in the indoor championships for para athletes in Pajulahti. At the same time, Kööpikkä improved his own three-year-old Finnish and Nordic record, which was 14.80.
Former The European record of 14.92 was held by a Pole Janusz Rokickin in names from 2015.
The world record for class 57 is 16.60. It was pushed by an Iranian Yasin Khosravi at last year’s World Championships in Delhi.
The European record holder worked hard as Kööpikä’s coach Hannu Kangas.
Kööpikkä has won two World Championship bronze medals in his sport in 2023 and 2024.
