Premiere in the DTM: Lucas Auer and the moving shoebox

“We were a bit worried about the time of year,” says the DTM managing director Thomas Voss to. “But you can see that you can also do car racing here in April and not just ski racing.”

In the middle of it all are two Austrians who are now experienced players. The Tyrolean Lucas Auer (31) has been part of the racing series since 2015, last year he fought for the title until the last race and finished second in the end. Thomas Preining (27) became the first Porsche driver to win the title in 2023.

Auer’s Mercedes is no longer pink this year, but in blue because of the new main sponsor. The car has already been described as the “moving shoebox”, but the Tyrolean counters: “I think the car looks very good. It’s an iconic design. I’m really happy about the partnership with Adidas.”

Porsche driver Thomas Preining is also “extremely happy”. Namely, that “we are starting the season with a home race. We are well positioned.” The collaboration with his new, young teammate Ricardo Feller (25/SUI) is also going perfectly. “I see him more often than my girlfriend. But I don’t know if that’s really a good thing.”
