1-Euro showdown in Charlottenburg: Spreefüxxe are aiming for a big step towards promotion

In the 2nd Women’s Handball Bundesliga, the showdown for the championship lead will take place this Saturday evening: The Spreefüxxe Berlin, second in the table (44:8 points), will host the league leaders HC Leipzig (45:7) in the Charlottenburg sports hall (7.30 p.m.).

The Saxons had won 16 games in a row at the start of the season – it wasn’t until mid-February that they suffered their first defeat in Bremen. After bankruptcy in 2017, the club is aiming to return to the first Bundesliga.

“Leipzig has a very broad squad with many good players,” says Berlin coach Susann Müller – who knows this from her own experience: she played for the HCL between 2006 and 2010 and in the 2013/2014 season. During this time she celebrated two German championships with the club and won the cup three times.

For their part, the Spreefüxxe naturally want to take a decisive step towards promotion and overtake the HCL. Captain Lucy Gündel says: “A game like this at the end of the season is fun and is exactly what we have been working towards all season. We are looking forward to offering our fans an attractive handball game in front of a home crowd and hopefully a full hall.”

The setting is also special: under the motto “Everyone in Green”, entry symbolically only costs one euro – the only requirement is a green top. Whether it’s a Spreefüxxe jersey or a simple T-shirt, the campaign is intended to create a “green wall” and stand for openness and community. Tickets are only available at the box office. This opens at 6 p.m.
