With ice hockey at the Accor Arena, Paris dreams of reliving Olympic fervor

A packed Accor Arena on a Sunday afternoon – half of the tickets were snapped up when they went on sale – for a gala ice hockey match. And a fervor that goes up a notch when the French team equalizes against Canada (it finally lost 6-1), the historic nation of world hockey. It was enough to boost the Parisian candidate for the organization of the Olympic men’s tournament in 2030.

After long months of procrastination and a final no go from Eric Ciotti, the organizing committee for the 2030 Games (Cojop) will note this Monday morning the impossibility for Nice to host the men’s ice hockey matches. The two presidents of the South and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regions, recalling that these are “the Games of the French Alps”, intend to make common cause to impose a plan B on Lyon.
