Sergio Ramos becomes the owner of his boyhood club in La Liga!

After several months of negotiations, the saga finally got its epilogue. Legendary defendersč Sergio Ramos reached a final agreement on taking over his children’s club, Seville. A consortium led by the 40-year-old footballer has bought a majority stake in an operation valued at around 450 million euros, opening a new chapter for the struggling Andalusian giants.

Although the last formal-legal steps are still awaited, including the signing of the contract with a public notary and the approval of La Liga and the Spanish High Court for Sports, all parties have confirmed that a general agreement has been reached. With this, Ramos, the child of Sevilla, returns to Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, but this time in the most important role, as the owner who should pull the club out of one of the deepest crises in recent history.

Ramos is the public face and driving force of the consortium, but behind him is significant capital from the American investment company Five Eleven Capital. Their offer, which culminated after an exhaustive in-depth recording of the club’s finances, convinced the previous majority shareholders to agree to the sale. The process itself started at the end of 2025, and the key step was the signing of the letter of intent in January, which was followed by a three-month period of exclusive negotiations.

The price of around 450 million euros refers to the acquisition of the majority of the stock package, but the agreement also includes a key item for the club’s future. The new owners have committed themselves to urgent recapitalization in the amount of between 80 and 100 million euros. This financial injection is intended to rehabilitate the club’s damaged accounts, reduce the debt, which is estimated at around 90 million euros net, and increase the salary limit, which would enable the strengthening of the playing staff.

The news of the takeover comes at a crucial time for Sevilla. The club, which has won the European League a record seven times in recent seasons, is fighting for bare first-division life. Revenues plummeted from EUR 214 million in the 2022/23 season. to only 115 million in the 2024/25 season. Sevilla is currently in 13th position in La Liga with 40 points, and Alaves, who is the first in the relegation zone, has only three points less. There are three more rounds until the end of the championship.

Ramos’ group of investors takes over a club burdened with financial losses and sporting uncertainty. This difficult situation was the reason why the negotiations became complicated at one point, but Ramos’ personal connection and desire to save the club prevailed. The fans see him as the only one who can bring back the winning mentality and stability to Sánchez-Pizjuán.
