PSG-Montpellier: why are Parisian supporters not attending the Gambardella Cup final at the Stade de France?

The Collectif Ultras Paris (CUP) cannot push its Titis this Friday (kick-off 5:15 p.m., to be followed on leparisien.fr). Like every year, the Gambardella Cup final takes place at the Stade de France, a few hours before the Coupe de France final on May 22 (9 p.m.).

And Paris Saint-Germain, which will face Montpellier for its first final since 1998, will not be able to benefit from the support of its supporters, even though the meeting is only taking place about ten kilometers from the capital. Indeed, no place for the Gambardella Cup final is allocated to the two clubs vying for the title, except for a few hundred guests including mainly the players’ relatives.

A small group of young Parisian supporters still sat in one of the side stands of the Stade de France, while around fifty Montpellier supporters showed up in the Dyonisian enclosure.

The ultras responded in the Youth League

Only ticket holders for the Coupe de France final can attend the meeting between the young players from Paris and Montpellier. The stands were therefore very sparse at the start of the match, even if a few dozen supporters of RC Lens and OGC Nice had already taken their places in the stands. A little less than 80,000 seats were available at the Stade de France this Friday: the Lensois were able to grab almost 60,000 seats, compared to only 15,000 for the Nice.

This season, the ultras of Paris Saint-Germain did not hesitate to travel to follow the progress of the Parisian titis in the Youth League in numbers. Many of them went to Nyon (Switzerland) to witness the cruel elimination on penalties of the Rouge et Bleu in the semi-final of the competition against Real Madrid (1-1, 5-4 in the tabs).
