“I believe the time has come to open a new phase: more dialogue, more listening, more mutual responsibility“: this is the message that the president of Lazio, Claudio Lotitoaddressed the fans in one open letter published in the Messaggero. “I also want a stronger, more competitive Lazio. “But the sustainability is not the opposite of ambition“, Lotito observed, “is the most serious way to give her a future. The criticism is legitimate. The protest is part of the history of football and the freedom of fans. But the discussion must remain within a framework of respect, truth and responsibility. I always thought that the Lazio should remain master of its own destiny. This was, is and will remain a fundamental line. The first duty of those who manage a club is not to chase one day’s applause. Lotito admitted that “the relationship with the fans must radically improve“: “It may have happened that, on some occasions, in a climate of strong tension, embittered by harsh words, insults and continuous attacks, I answered the phone recklesslywith tones that I would not have wanted to use and which may have been perceived as distance or closure. If this happened, I take responsibility for it. But I want to be clear: there never has been, nor will there ever be, one lack of respect towards Lazio fans“. “I don’t ask you to always agree with me. However, I ask you to think together: to distinguish criticism from delegitimization, passion from destruction, dissent from irreparable fracture.”
