Former ice hockey world champion Kyle Calder has died at the age of just 47. “Never in a million years would I have thought this day would come,” his daughter Madison wrote in an Instagram post. According to the Los Angeles Kings junior team, the former NHL professional succumbed to a short illness. Calder won the World Cup with Canada in 2003.

The striker played in the North American professional league for a decade and played more than 600 games, including for the Chicago Blackhawks. Team boss Danny Wirtz said Calder approached life with the same passion, intensity and incredible dedication that characterized his game.
