Bezzecchi apologizes for his attack on the commissioner and will not appeal the sanction

The Italian rider Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia), leader of the MotoGP World Championship, has apologized this Sunday to the track marshal whom he attacked after his fall in the sprint race on Saturday at the Czech Grand Prix and has decided not to appeal the sanction imposed by Race Direction, which penalized him without racing this Sunday.

“I would like to apologize to the entire MotoGP community for my behavior towards the track steward. I am also sorry because I know how much effort and sacrifice the stewards make to guarantee our safety. This behavior should not happen and there is no justification for it. I apologize to everyone, to Aprilia Racing and to all my fans,” he said on social media.

On Saturday, with two laps remaining in the short race, the transalpine crashed after losing control of his bike in turn 3. He headed towards his bike and pushed the marshall who was trying to help him, whom he subsequently slapped. Race Direction sanctioned him without racing on Sunday.

This same Sunday, Bezzecchi approached the commissioner’s position at the Brno Circuit during the ‘warm up’ to personally apologize. The ’72’ spoke with him for several minutes, gave him some gifts and they both hugged on several occasions.

The Italian leads the overall standings with a 15-point advantage over the Spanish Jorge Martín (Aprilia), who could take advantage of his teammate’s penalty to cut points in the fight for the premier class title.

After learning of the sanction, Aprilia Racing presented an appeal to the Stewards Panel, which on Saturday night confirmed the leader’s penalty.

The Italian brand only had the option of raising the appeal before the International Court of Appeal (CAI), but this Sunday it confirmed that it accepted the sanction.
