Bundesliga: Werder signs Swiss World Cup driver Itten

Itten last played for Fortuna Düsseldorf. However, his 15 goals this season could not prevent the Rhinelanders from being relegated to the second division. His contract in Düsseldorf is no longer valid for the 3rd league. So he was able to come to the Weser free of charge.

“Werder is a large, traditional club and the discussions with those responsible went very well,” said Itten, according to Werder’s statement. “The exchange with the trainer, who I already know from the past, was also great. After Itten’s move from Young Boys Bern to Düsseldorf last summer, both worked together until Thioune’s release as Fortuna coach in October.

At the World Cup, Itten came into the game shortly before the end of Switzerland’s 4-1 win against Bosnia-Herzegovina. The Swiss’ next game is on Wednesday (9 p.m./ARD and MagentaTV) in Vancouver against co-hosts Canada.
