Tennis: Harri Heliövaara and Henry Patten were disappointed – “It has to be said”

Tennis top pair of doubles Harri Heliövaara–Henry Patten lost the final of the London ATP tournament on Sunday Marcelo Arevalolle and Mate Pavicille.

Arevalo and Pavic won directly in two sets on the grass court with 6–2, 6–4.

Heliövaara, who is preparing for Wimbledon with his British partner Patten, praised his opponents in the Tennisliitto press release.

Arevalo and Pavic immediately broke the first pass in the opening set and took control of the match. The second set was more even, but ended with the loss of Heliövaara and Patten.

“The defeat came. I have to say that the opponents were in a wild bet. Pavic played such a match that I don’t know if we would have had a chance, no matter what had been done,” said the 37-year-old Finn.

“Hats off to the opposition. They returned passes well and kept things together.”

Noise hazard and Patten will celebrate the first grand slam victory of their career at Wimbledon in 2024. Last year, the couple’s streak was broken in the quarterfinals.

The ATP tournament in London, which ended on Sunday, is popular among players, as it is played on a grass court in London, just like Wimbledon.

“This was another positive week for us, even though it’s sad to lose the finals. It used to be a long stretch that we won almost every final, so at some point it slips in the wrong direction,” Heliövaara said.

“In grass tennis, it feels like we’re pretty well on our way. We know what we’re doing towards Wimbledon. We’ll have a training week and then we’ll put everything into play.”

The Wimbledon tennis tournament starts on June 29.
