Nine African teams in the round of 32, never so many

Never have so many African teams qualified for the Football World Cup and never have so many (nine) passed to sixteenths. And, alongside the confirmations of Morocco, Senegal or Ivory Coast, there are also surprises such as Cape Verde.

Ten of them reached the group stage, there are still nine of them competing in the direct clashes with the only one exception of Tunisia, eliminated. After two weeks of competitions, Morocco, South Africa (eliminated yesterday by Canada), Senegal, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cape Verde, Egypt, Democratic Republic of Congo and Algeria reached the new round for the African continent. Africa, which presented itself at the World Cup hosted by Mexico, Canada and the United States, did not disappoint, on the contrary it showed a good game and revealed some surprises, the biggest of which was Cape Verde.

The Cape Verde surprise

The archipelago state with just over half a million inhabitants has passed its group and will face the July 4th with the queen of football, Argentina’s Lionel Messi. Whatever happens, for Cape Verdeans it will be a victory and it will be a celebration.

South Africa eliminated by Canada

The round of 32 was inaugurated yesterday by South Africa Los Angeles challenged Canada, emerging defeated only at 92 for a goal scored in injury time by Stephen Eustaquio.

The challenges of Morocco and Ivory Coast

Tomorrow, Tuesday June 30th Morocco and Ivory Coast will take the field. The North Africans, who in the previous edition, in Qatar, had finished fourth, will face the Netherlands. It will be a breathtaking challenge in the name of spectacular football. The Moroccans showed what they are made of, obtaining the next round in a group that saw them together with Brazil (with whom they drew). The Orange team, on the other hand, had drawn an easier group, finishing in first place (with Japan, Sweden and Tunisia behind them). Whoever wins between the two will find Canada in the round of 16. Also on 30 June, Ivory Coast will be on stage and will face the Norway Of Erling Haaland. The Manchester City striker will be the player the Ivorians will have to watch out for the most.

The meetings of July 1st

Wednesday July 1stwill take place at the Atlanta stadium England – Democratic Republic of Congo. On the one hand, a national team which is famous but has won relatively little in its history; on the other, a revelation team drawn from among the best third-placed teams. The prediction is in favor of the English but in football you never say never. The same day, a SeattleSenegal will meet the Belgium Of Romelu Lukaku. Although they reached the round of 32 among the best third-placed teams, the Senegalese team came from a challenging group where they also showed good results against Franceamong the favorites for the final victory. Belgium, on the other hand, finished first in its group but collected only 5 points with Egypt, Iran and New Zealand. It will be an equal challenge.

The matches of July 3rd
