Andreas Christensen renews with Barça until 2028

FC Barcelona announced this Wednesday the renewal of Danish defender Andreas Christensen, who extends his relationship with the Blaugrana entity and will continue to be part of the first team’s sporting project for two more seasons.

“FC Barcelona and Andreas Christensen have reached an agreement to renew the contract of the Danish defender, who will remain linked to the Club until June 30, 2028. In this way, the center-back extends his time as a Barça player for two more seasons,” the club announced in a statement.

At 30 years old, Christensen will face his fifth season as a Barça player after arriving in the summer of 2022 from Chelsea. Since then, the center back has demonstrated his ability to interpret the team’s game, with good ball delivery and experience, but always marked by injuries.

In fact, the defender’s last season was conditioned by a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee that kept him off the playing field for several months. After 158 days of absence, he returned to compete on the last day of LaLiga, played at Mestalla.

In his four seasons as a Barça player, Christensen has played a total of 98 official matches divided between LaLiga (71), Champions League (15), Europa League (2), Copa del Rey (6) and Spanish Super Cup (4), also being part of a cycle of collective success in which the team won three Leagues, one Copa del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups.

Barça highlighted that this contractual extension guarantees the continuity of a player with international experience and already physically recovered, who will continue to provide experience and solidity to the Blaugrana team’s defensive line.
