While waiting for coach Fernando Seabra’s departure to Vasco to be confirmed, the Coritiba announced, this Friday morning (3), the signing of the Uruguayan striker Brian Ocampo26 years old.
The player was at Cádiz, in Spain, and was free on the market after the end of his contract with the Spanish club. At Coxa, he signs for three seasons, with a contract valid until 2029.
Club and player had been negotiating since the end of Ocampo’s participation in Cádiz last season. The parties already had an agreement in place and exchanged draft contracts before the medical examinations were carried out. After being approved, the attacker was made official as the new Alviverde reinforcement.
Revealed by Nacional, from Uruguay, Ocampo will have his first experience in Brazilian football. The striker was negotiated with Cádiz in 2022 for around 1.9 million euros, approximately R$10 million at the price at the time, in an operation that involved the purchase of 85% of the athlete’s economic rights.
Last season for the Spanish club, Ocampo played 31 matches, scored five goals and provided two assists, his season with the most goal appearances. Cádiz finished the Spanish second division in 18th place.
Reinforcement increases competition in Coritiba’s attack
Ocampo arrives at Coritiba to increase competition in the offensive sector. The Uruguayan plays on the sides of the field and will compete for position with names like Lavega, Fabinho and Keno, who had been the main options used by Fernando Seabra in Serie A. With Seabra’s imminent departure to Vasco, of course, this scenario could change.
Furthermore, the signing also gives the club an alternative in a possible scenario of Lucas Ronier leaving. A highlight of the team in recent seasons and constantly watched by the market, the striker continues to arouse interest from other clubs. With Ocampo, Coxa expands the squad’s options for the remainder of the Brazilian Championship.
Coritiba remains in the transfer market
The official re-presentation of Coritiba is scheduled for Wednesday (17) at CT da Graciosa. While preparing for the return of the Brazilian Championship, the team will have two training games ahead, against Internacional, in Porto Alegre and Chapecoense, in Curitiba.
The tendency, however, is that Coxa’s market during this Brasileirão break for the World Cup will not be aggressive. The club is betting on the recovery of athletes from its own squad to continue on the rise in Series A.
Coritiba’s first game after the World Cup break is against Palmeiras, at Couto Pereira, in the 19th round of the Brazilian Championship. The game does not have a set date yet, but the CBF is working with a base date of Wednesday, July 22nd, for the return of the games. Coxa ended the first part of the Brasileirão in seventh place, with 26 points.
