It remains a medal for the German canoe slalom team at the World Championships in Oklahoma City. After the Canadian men’s team won bronze, there was hope that precious metal could also be possible in the individual event. But Lennard Tuchscherer from Leipzig finished tenth in the surprise victory of Miquel Travé from Spain. Sideris Tasiadis came eighth as the best German.
In the semifinals, the two DKV athletes were impressive in fourth and fifth place. Tuchscherer started with a touch on the goal, and the uncertainty continued right through to the finish. Tasiadis was unable to repeat his performance from the semi-finals, was slower and therefore not close to a medal.
“Second or third place would certainly have been possible. I’m actually just happy that I’m the best German boat and that I was able to do something in terms of the Olympic quota place,” said two-time Olympic medalist Tasiadis.
German women already out in the semi-finals
The German women missed the final of the best twelve. Andrea Herzog from Leipzig failed to take part in the final by finishing 13th by 0.39 seconds. Her Leipzig teammates Lucie Krech and Nele Bayn came in 19th and 22nd.
