The women’s Bundesliga is losing another national soccer player: Carlotta Wamser, 22, is leaving Bayer Leverkusen and moving to English champions Manchester City. According to Bild-Zeitung, the transfer fee could be up to 65,000 euros (including bonuses), making Wamser the most expensive German Bundesliga player to date. At City she meets her DFB colleagues Rebecca Knaak and Sydney Lohmann; her own contract runs until 2030.
“The move is a dream come true for me – in the best league in the world,” said Wamser, who can be used variably in midfield and defense. She was already missing from Leverkusen’s 1-2 home game against Wolfsburg on Sunday. Before Wamser, DFB players Selina Cerci (Arsenal FC), Nicole Anyomi (London City Lionesses) and Vivien Endemann (Liverpool) had already moved to England this summer. Elisa Senß also moved to Real Madrid.
