Austria's last European Championship opponent: "Poland is perfectly fine"

ÖFB team boss Ralf Rangnick had to wait almost until midnight for his opponent at the European Championships after the 6-1 win against Turkey.

Poland is the third opponent from Austria’s successful national team in Group D of the European Championships in Germany in the summer. The Poles survived a penalty shootout against Wales in Cardiff on Tuesday in the Qualification Path A play-off final with a 5-4 win after more than 120 goalless minutes.

The ÖFB selection followed the penalty thriller in Cardiff after theirs 6-1 friendly win against Turkey in the catacombs of the Ernst Happel Stadium. “We take it as it comes,” said team boss Ralf Rangnick. Poland is “perfectly fine” as a European Championship opponent. We knew from the start that we had a strong group. That hasn’t changed now.” Christoph Baumgartner is looking forward to the duel with Lewandowski and Co. “This is also a team with an absolute world-class striker. But we don’t need to hide,” said the ÖFB offensive man. “We have the quality to beat them.” We now have one of the strongest groups in the tournament. “You could say that.”

The European Championships will be against the Poles on June 21st (6 p.m.) in the Berlin Olympic Stadium, and there are other group opponents France and the Netherlands.

The European Championship premieres Georgia with Storm Star Otar Kiteishvili after a 4-2 penalty shootout win against Greece in Tbilisi. She also bought her final round ticket Ukraine with a 2-1 win against Iceland in Wroclaw.
