Suspected 'insider trading', Ajax suspends general manager Kroes

Immediate suspension for Ajax general manager, Alex Kroes. This was decided by the Supervisory Board of the Amsterdam club which also announces “the intention to definitively interrupt the collaboration”. In a press release, the Dutch company said it took this decision “after the supervisory board learned that Kroes purchased more than 17,000 Ajax shares one week before his appointment scheduled for 2 August 2023. The supervisory board has made use of external legal advice which has shown that it is very likely that he committed insider trading. Insider trading is a criminal offence”, underlines a note from the club.

 

“We are unpleasantly surprised, what happened is very negative for the club and for all those who care about Ajax – the words of the president of the supervisory board Michael van Praag -. Alex Kroes’ actions are not compatible with this ‘ what we are doing. A listed company cannot tolerate such a violation of the law, especially if it concerns the CEO. After careful deliberation, the supervisory board therefore came to The conclusion is that Alex’s position as a member of the Ajax board of directors is not sustainable.”
The company concludes by informing that it will be called shortly an extraordinary general meeting of the shareholders (EGM) to hear them regarding the planned dismissal as prescribed by the articles of association. The Supervisory Board will then make a final decision.”
