The ‘Warriors’ beat Lithuania again on their perfect path to the European Championship

The Spanish women’s handball team beat Lithuania by a large 20-34 this Wednesday during the fifth and penultimate day of the qualifying phase for the European Championship, which will be held at the end of the year in venues in Austria, Switzerland and Hungary.

At the Avia Solutions Group Arena in Vilnius, the ‘Warriors’ dominated the scoreboard with an initial 0-2 lead that, despite being neutralized (3-3), stretched to a 4-10 scoreline that put the ball in the balance. Thanks to her seven stops in the first half, Nicole Wiggins took center stage in Spain.

In attack, the success of Danila So Delgado on the left side and that of María Prieto O’Mullony from the right kept the visitors’ lead (9-17). Ambros Martín’s pupils, clinging to another good performance in the goal of Darly Zoqby, came out of the break with determination.

The score of 10-19, the work of Kaba Gassama in the pivot, made the match even more complicated for a Lithuania entrusted to the goals of Rita Rakauskiene. Not in vain, Spain reached +15 (17-32, 18-33, 19-34) before Ausra Arcisevskaja scored the last goal with a long shot at the buzzer.

The full performance of the ‘Warriors’ continues in this qualifying phase, based on five wins in five days, to show off their leadership with 10 points within Group 5. North Macedonia occupies second position, with six points, after having won by 22-37 to the Azerbaijan team.
