Pedro Rocha, proclaimed president of the Federacin Espaola de Ftbol two weeks ago, after being imputed in the 'Operacin Brody'

Not because it is known, the headline stops impacting. Pedro Rocha The new president of the Spanish Football Federation has been proclaimed this summer. As such, Federacin itself announced it in a statement.

“According to Order EFD/42/2024, of January 25, which regulates electoral processes in Spanish sports federations and the RFEF electoral regulations, the Electoral Commission has proceeded to the direct proclamation of the candidate who, immediately, to become president of this entity,” the text says.

This was actually a planned step. His status as an investigator in ‘Operation Brody’ did not prevent him from being president, since only a final conviction would close the door, and neither did the Higher Sports Council (CSD) prevent him from doing so at its meeting on Thursday, where not even voted for his possible precautionary suspension by virtue of the file, due to “very serious” misconduct, which the Administrative Court of Sports (TAD) has initiated against him.

Despite the minister’s words Pilar Alegra and the Secretary of State for Sports, Jose Manuel Rodrguez Uribes, where they made clear their opposition to Rocha being the visible head of Spanish football, the truth is that, as of this Friday, he is the president of the Federation with all the letters. According to federation sources, next Monday it will name its Board of Directors and immediately call elections for next September.

Now it remains to be seen if he fulfills his part of the pact that the Government has reached in recent weeks with him and with all the actors in Spanish sport, and in which Rocha is obliged to play a very discreet role, far removed from any public representation. in the next events (European Championship and Olympic Games). The Supervision and Representation Commission that the Executive is trying to create, against the clock, will be in charge of that.

For its part, the CSD must also now consider whether next Tuesday, at the meeting announced to continue discussing the situation of the Federation, it decides to even provisionally suspend Rocha, now that he is already president (on Thursday it did not do so because The legal services had doubts about the viability of this sanction for someone who, until this Friday morning, had no position).
