iPlena: Artificial intelligence for the treatment of back and neck pain

The iPlena app uses artificial intelligence to treat back and neck pain to improve the posture and movement of the body, depending on its skeletal structure and symmetry, with the help of a range of focused exercises.

Many suffer from back and neck pain. In fact, these pains are some of the most common types of chronic pain in the world and are caused by lifestyle – prolonged sitting, injury from sports activities, stress, tension and obesity. The structure of the skeleton and the form of posture, walking and running of the body also have a great effect on the load of the joints and also on the muscles and their function.

IPlena CEO Alexander Srukowski is a German-Jewish osteopath and physiotherapist who harnesses the technology in favor of an innovative diagnostic and treatment approach and a patented solution based on AI data analysis.

In the first stage, you enter the app and take three photos. The photos are taken in full clothing. The app scans the body, the shape of the posture, the proportions and the symmetrical structure and points out in seconds the sources of the problems.

In the second stage the app details why there are problems and how they can be addressed through focused exercises. In the third and final step the app provides a schedule of personal training planning based on the data and personal physical analysis. The training is very short and simple to practice.

“Our method of treatment has been developed in our clinics in Germany for six years and has already helped more than 10,000 people,” said Srokowski. “Last year I started developing the combination of artificial intelligence and its application as part of the diagnosis and treatment. The iPlena app provides a natural, easy and simple solution to treat the source of the problems. We do not ask people where it hurts, but analyze body symmetry, scoliosis, skeletal angles and more.
