FPT Chairman was awarded the Rising Sun medal by Japan

Awarded on April 29, the Rising Sun medal is the Japanese Government’s recognition of Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Corporation, in promoting technological cooperation, developing digital human resources and strengthening economic connections between the two countries. Under Mr. Binh’s leadership, FPT Corporation was one of the pioneering businesses exporting software to Japan 20 years ago, contributing to paving the way for Vietnamese software exporting businesses to access and develop in this market and gradually build a bridge between the two countries’ business communities.

For more than two decades, FPT has become one of the largest foreign-invested technology enterprises in the Japanese market. The group currently has more than 5,000 employees working directly in 18 offices and research centers in Japan, more than 18,000 specialized global experts, providing services and technology solutions to more than 450 customers in this market.

In addition, FPT and Mr. Binh actively participate in cooperation and business connection mechanisms between the two countries, including economic forums, business associations and Vietnam – Japan cooperation initiatives. This contributes to strengthening links between the business community and promoting cooperation in strategic technology fields such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence and semiconductors.

Mr. Binh graduated from the Department of Mechanical Mathematics, Moscow State University (Lomonosov) in 1979, defended his doctoral thesis in 1982 and was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 1991. On September 13, 1988, he and 12 scientists founded FPT company, the predecessor of the current FPT corporation. Throughout the development process, he played the role of strategic direction, turning FPT into an international information technology enterprise.

Previously, in 2013, FPT Chairman was also awarded the Nikkei Asian Award by Nikkei Media Group (Japan) for his important contributions to the development of Vietnam’s information technology industry.

Vietnam and Japan have established a 2023 joint statement on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, identifying strategic technology fields such as AI, semiconductors, digital transformation and technology supply chains as central pillars of cooperation, thereby shifting from the outsourcing model to co-development and deeper participation in the global technology value chain. Previously, both countries established diplomatic relations in 1973.

In Vietnam, a number of outstanding individuals were awarded the Rising Sun medal by the Japanese government to recognize their contributions to promoting bilateral relations. Among them are the late General Secretary Do Muoi (posthumous award), former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, former National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and a number of senior leaders and experts in the fields of defense, economics, science and technology.
