The new Steam Controller finally got a price and a release date

The new Steam Controller will be available starting May 4th at a price of 99 euros, according to the company’s announcement. It will be sold directly through the Steam platform.

The controller comes with an 8.39 Wh battery that should provide more than 35 hours of use on a single charge. It is equipped with magnetic sticks (thumbsticks) and a complete set of buttons to be compatible with the entire library of games on Steam. A more realistic experience is ensured by four haptic motors that enable high-definition vibrations.

The package also comes with the Steam Controller Puck, a device that enables wireless, low-latency connection and simple magnetic charging. However, using Puck is not mandatory because the controller can also be connected via Bluetooth or USB cable.

Compatibility within the Valve ecosystem

Steam Controller works with the Steam Machine console, computers with Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems, as well as tablets and smartphones that use Steam or the Steam Link app. Support is also provided for Steam Deck, regardless of whether it is in portable mode or connected to an external display.

The integration with Valve’s VR device is also interesting. Namely, the cameras of the Steam Frame device can follow the controller, which makes it possible to play classic games that are not intended for VR on a virtual screen.
