Samsung presents an OLED screen with a built-in sensor that measures heart rate just by touching it

Samsung has announced its innovations in display technology, which include OLED screens with higher brightness and a wider color range, and with a built-in biometic sensor to measure heart rate.

The South Korean company participates in Display Week 2026the fair focused on display technologies held in Los Angeles (California, United States) from May 5 to 7.

In it, and under the motto “The spectrum of innovation in displays with AI”, it will present its new OLED products, which focus on the ‘Flex Chroma Pixel’ panels, with a wide range of colors, and ‘Sensor OLED Display’, a panel with a built-in biometric sensor.

‘Flex Chroma Pixel’ is a display technology for smartphones that reaches a peak of 3,000 nits brightness y supports BT.2020 color space at 96%which “offers the widest color gamut, approximately 1.7 times that of DCI-P3,” as it explains in a statement.

To achieve this, Samsung Display – the division in charge of this component – used phosphorescent sensitized fluorescence to improve the purity and color reproduction in OLED screens. It also incorporated its own LEAD technology, which “offers low consumption, high brightness and absence of polarizer.”

With regards to ‘Sensor OLED Display’is a screen with a built-in biometric sensor, which detects blood flow with the light it emits, to measure heart rate and blood pressure just by touching it.

In this panel, which Samsung has shown in a size of 6.8 inches, the company has combined RGB pixels and organic photodiodes through a codeposition process, which has allowed it to not lose resolution, reaching 500 PPI.

‘Sensor OLED Display’ also incorporates the ‘Flex Magic Pixel’ privacy technology, which hides key information when the screen is viewed from the side, versus the more conventional approach that completely blocks side vision.

EL-QD SCREENS

Along with these innovations in OLED, Samsung Display has presented its new EL-QD screens, electroluminescent quantum dotswhich offer 25 percent more brightness compared to those shown last year, reaching 500 nits on an 18-inch panel.

This technology uses quantum dot pixels that They emit light directly through electrical signals without the use of OLEDs“which provides high color accuracy and great energy efficiency”, as explained by Samsung.

STRETCHABLE SCREEN 2.0

Samsung will also bring an update to Display Week 2026 your stretchable screen for vehicles, based on micro LED, which offers higher resolution by doubling the pixel density within the bridge structure.

“This technology is expected to dynamically adjust the display based on driving conditions and maximize visibility,” explained a company spokesperson.
