Governance of artificial intelligence and national resilience, the new directions of digital development

The event brought together institutions, companies, managers and industry experts in a discussion dedicated to the topics of cybersecurity, cyber defense, Artificial Intelligence and national digital security. The Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi and the Minister for the Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin opened the proceedings. Also present were numerous representatives of European, national and local institutions, including the MEP Sandro Gozi, the head of institutional relations of the European Parliament in Italy Fabrizio Spada, the senior expert of the Joint Research Center of the European Commission Matteo Fornara, the councilor for Budget and Real Estate of the Municipality of Milan Emmanuel Conte, the president of the Social Sustainability, Home and Family Commission of Lombardy Emanuele Monti and the president of the Young Entrepreneurs group of Assolombarda.

Gabriele Ferrieri, president of ANGI, declared: “With the Young Innovators Business Forum we want to reiterate the central role of young people and innovation as drivers of the relaunch of the Italian system”.

Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin underlined the correlation between technological progress and the environment: “The digital transition is also a fundamental lever for the ecological one, but Artificial Intelligence imposes important challenges related to energy consumption and resource managementIn this scenario, the role of the new generations becomes central to defining the country’s policies, as reiterated by minister Andrea Abodi: “The themes brought by young innovators also represent a concrete contribution to the country’s policies”.

Cyber ​​security has been identified no longer as a mere technological cost, but as a fundamental organizational asset. Experts analyzed the transition towards “antifragile” systems, capable of improving in response to external shocks thanks to the predictive use of AI. Alessandra Maggini, Sales Director of LibraCyber, pointed out that “technology and cyber awareness must work together: technology protects and monitors, while training helps people recognize risks”.

At the same time, the issue of digital sovereignty has been linked to the control of interoperable cloud infrastructures and the resilience of strategic data. On the industrial front, the digitalisation of SMEs has been indicated as a necessary accelerator for competitiveness, provided that models of accountability and trust are integrated into autonomous systems. The event, sponsored by the main European institutions and AgID, confirmed that the real challenge of digital transformation lies in the balance between advanced technological tools and a solid culture of security.
