American humanoid robot automatically takes turns working 24/7

Figure AI broadcasts live scenes of robots working, attracting millions of views. According to Interesting Engineeringthe test began on May 13, initially expected to last 8 hours but has now lasted more than 40 hours and is still ongoing.

The three robots working in the first 24 hours include Bob, Frank, Gary, named according to viewers’ comments. On the second working day, another robot named Rose joined the work. “After having no problems yesterday, we decided to continue. The robots worked automatically for more than 24 hours without any errors. This is unprecedented,” Brett Adcock, founder and CEO of Figure AI, wrote on X.

The company said, Figure 03 is responsible for detecting barcodes on packaging, picking up packages and putting them on the conveyor belt with the barcode printed side facing down. They do this thanks to the built-in camera and inference capabilities of Helix 02, an AI model developed by the company. TechRadar evaluation, after more than 40 hours, about 51,000 packages were sorted, most of them correctly.

“On average, it takes a human about three seconds to process each package. Figure 03 currently achieves the same speed,” Adcock said, emphasizing that the robot is not controlled remotely. If the robot gets stuck or has other problems, Helix 02 will trigger an automatic reset. In the event of a software or hardware problem, the robot will leave the work station for maintenance, while another robot automatically takes its place.

The livestream comes days after Figure AI released a video of two Figure 03 robots coordinating to clean a bedroom without human help. They are also equipped with the Helix-02 control model, designed as a unified neural network that combines vision, touch, body position sensing and full-body control. Unlike traditional industrial robots that often separate movement and manipulation systems, Figure AI’s robots use the same AI model to walk, balance, manipulate objects and coordinate activities.
